New Power-Set: Warping! (Teleporting and Scrying)

Updated 2015-08-31

After a couple of successful play-tests, I’ve added the Warping Power-Set.  If you’ve ever wanted to teleport to work or school to avoid traffic and get an extra few minutes of sleep, this power is for YOU!  Thanks to Jeff and Aldrin for creating characters with these powers!

I’ve also updated the Flight and Speedster Power-Sets to fix a mechanic that allowed people with a lot of movement to add too much of that movement into attacks.  Some is OK, but not as much as the players discovered.  This is why we play-test!  I’m grateful to Anders and Chad for their ability to min-max and find this problem!

Awesome Fan!

Awesome news!  A play-tester from Gen Con has volunteered to help me create an online Hero-creator!  Keep your eyes here for more detail as it comes together.  I have no idea how long this might take, but I’ll be thrilled if you see it before Gen-Con 2016.

Also, a reminder that I’ll be at Gateway (Strategicon) in LA over Labor Day weekend running THI.  My time slots are:

  • Friday the 4th:  2pm – Episode 1
  • Friday the 4th:  8pm – Episode 1
  • Saturday the 5th:  9am – Episode 2
  • Saturday the 5th:  2pm – Episode 1

GM’s Needed!

Hey folks,

One of the biggest risks for me as a game-designer is that I make a game that is only fun while I am the GM.   That is not my goal!  I want to make a game that is easy for anyone to have fun running and playing.

So, in order to make this the greatest Super-hero RPG ever, I need to find brave GM’s willing to run adventures and tell me what my game is lacking.  Maybe that GM is YOU!

Today, I’ve posted the adventure and the 6 pre-generated (pre-gen) characters that I used at Gen Con.   It’s a 2-hour adventure, so not a big commitment.   Try it out, and let me know how it goes.  I want to hear the good and the bad.  What was confusing?  What did people like, What did they not like?  What critical piece of information did I fail to give you, the GM?   Email me at the address below.

And thank you!!

At Gateway (Strategicon – LAX, Sept 4-7)

Good news!  I’ve just signed up to run 7 (seven!) 4-hour The Hero Instant games at Gateway, the Strategicon convention here in Los Angeles over Labor Day weekend!   I’ll run a 3-episode mini-arc, but don’t worry about jumping in anywhere, we can catch you up to the story!

Here are my time slots:

  • Friday the 4th:  2pm – Episode 1
  • Friday the 4th:  8pm – Episode 1
  • Saturday the 5th:  9am – Episode 2
  • Saturday the 5th:  2pm – Episode 1
  • Sunday the 6th: 9am – Episode 1
  • Sunday the 6th: 2pm – Episode 2
  • Monday the 7th: 9am – Episode 3

Will I see you there?

Gen Con was AMAZING!

A giant Thank You to all the people who came out and tried The Hero Instant in the First Exposure Play-test Hall!  I ran a 2-hour session 5 times there (and one more time for some friends), and all the feedback is SO useful.  Thank you so much!  I hope you all had as much fun as I did.

Next up!  Fantastic Four opens today, and so I think my first task is to finalize the Earth / Stone Power-Set and add it to the list.  That way, if someone were to want to create those characters in this game, one could do so.

Here’s how I’d do it:

Maybe they should ALL get at least one level of Science?  How would YOU make them?

Cheers!
